Kit (ConvertKit) vs Squarespace Email Marketing [2025]
I receive this question a lot: “What is better, ConvertKit vs Squarespace Email Marketing?”
Both platforms are great but they offer slightly different experiences and features depending on what you need. In late 2024 ConvertKit rebranded to Kit. As a certified Squarespace expert, I recommend both of these email marketing platforms. However, they have different use cases depending on what you need. At the time of updating this article, Squarespace is expanding their email marketing features to include more automations, but they still aren’t quite as robust as Kit.
Key Takeaways
Kit (formally ConvertKit) now allows you to build your newsletter up to 10,000 subscribers on their free plan! Yes, you read that right, 10,000 subscribers for free!
Kit (formally ConvertKit) offers way more options in terms of segmentation and automation.
Squarespace email marketing is great for singular use—it is best if you want to send monthly newsletters or just focus on Squarespace e-commerce (connecting with your customers).
Squarespace email marketing will be easier to integrate into your Squarespace website because it is part of the native platform (for newsletters and e-commerce).
You can embed your Kit (Convertkit) forms directly into your website using an embed or code block. Kit (Convertkit) also let’s you automatically sync up to your e-commerce store using an API key (on Squaresapce Commerce plans).
Free Plan | Segmentation | Automation | Integrates Into Squarespace | Popup Forms | |

Kit (formally ConvertKit) Email Marketing
Best for: complex automations, multiple forms and entry points, pre-built landing pages, using referrals from other users on the ConvertKit network, single e-commerce products
Pros: create multiple automations from multiple sources with complex rules, sequence emails, and more; segment your audience and target specific content with robust tagging options
Pro tip: One of my favorite ConvertKit features is the ability to tag users based on links they click. This gives us the ability to target specific topics, as well as a way for our users to choose the content they want to receive.
This is an example of various automations in ConvertKit. You can add multiple entry points, multiple tags, more then one sequence, and more.
Cons: You have to manually embed the forms into your website using the “embed” block, or integrate it into the Squarespace newsletter block using Zapier (check out my guide on embedding your ConvertKit forms). You can however integrate Squarespace e-commerce purchases directly into Convertkit using the “integration” option in ConvertKit. See below for more information.
Pricing: use it for free up to 1000 subscribers; paid plans start at $9/month for automations and more (learn more about pricing)
Getting Started: You can try ConvertKit for free with up to 10,000 subscribers. Only upgrade if you need to add more subscribers or want to try their automation features (other then a welcome email).
Bonus Tip: to Sync Squarespace Purchases to Kit (formally ConvertKit)
Go to your Squarespace Dashboard and click on Settings > Advanced > Developer API Keys. Generate a new API.
Under the performance tab, click Orders. Under the Orders dropdown menu, select the Read and Write check.
Copy the generated key code.
Log into your ConvertKit account and click on the Automation dropdown.
Select Integration and then click on Squarespace.
Paste the API key you copied into the API key field and click Next.
Click the “Sync Squarespace Orders to Convertkit” button and click Next to finish
ConvertKit vs Squarespace FAQ’s
Does Squarespace have email campaigns?
Yes, Squarespace has a built-in email marketing platform that is native with the Squarespace website platform. Because it is part of the Squarespace ecosystem, it easily integrates with your Squarespace website. Squarespace email campaigns work best for regular newsletters or e-commerce. You can set up a basic automation with Squarespace email campaigns and basic e-commerce segmentation.
What email systems integrate with Squarespace?
The built-in newsletter block in Squarespace currently integrates directly with Mailchimp, Squarespace email campaigns, and Zaiper. You can use Zaiper to integrate with any email system currently offered through Zaiper. You can also use other email systems with Squarespace by embedding your forms using a code or embed block. This works well for Kit (formally ConvertKit).
Why chose Convertkit?
Kit (formally Convertkit) is a fantastic platform for creators. However, it works for any small business using content creation to marketing and grow their business. It has robust features for segmentation, automation, digital products, unlimited forms, and more.
Which is best Mailchimp or Convertkit?
Convertkit is better then Mailchimp because you can grow your email list up to 10,000 subscribers for free. Kit (formally Convertkit) has superior customer service. The Mailchimp platform has become quite glitchy, only allows up to 2,000 subscribers on their free plan, and in my experience it’s nearly impossible to get in touch with customer service. However, the Mailchimp drag-and-drop designer is a little more creative and they offer more templates.
